Queenstown, New Zealand, is an extraordinary destination. Its unique natural beauty, nestled in the heart of the Southern Alps, is a sight that will leave you in awe. As the world's adventure capital, it's a must-visit for those who crave the thrill of breathtaking landscapes and action-packed activities. Following a visit to the North Island of New Zealand, my journey to this remarkable place
began with a 2-hour plane journey. I went in January, a perfect month to visit because of the pleasant weather. The landscapes of the South Island were strikingly different, with the majestic Southern Alps dominating the scenery and offering a stunning view.
Explore Queenstown
This bustling town offers numerous activities and sights to explore. I took the Gondola to Bob's Peak and visited the Skyline Queenstown attraction, where I dined at the Stratosfare Restaurant & Bar. Here, you can enjoy a delightful meal while enjoying the gorgeous views of Lake Wakatipu,
the surrounding mountains, and the town below. In addition to top-notch dining, you can enjoy exciting activities such as ziplining, hiking, and luge. I tried the luge, a gravity-powered go-kart, which was a lot of fun as I weaved around corners and through tunnels. At the end of the day, the Gondola ride back to the city offered spectacular scenery as we descended
Take a Day Trip to Milford Sound
Milford Sound is a remote fiord surrounded by cliffs, thick rainforests, majestic waterfalls, and breathtaking views. An affordable and restful
5-hour bus ride allowed me to enjoy the beautiful sweeping grass fields, captivating mountains, gorgeous lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and Fiordland National Park along the way. Once we arrived at Milford Sound, I hopped on a boat and sailed past towering cliffs, impressive waterfalls, and glaciers in the Southern Alps, all while spotting seals and dolphins. It was a peaceful and thrilling experience. Instead of flying back to Queenstown, which would have taken half the time flying over the Alps, I chose to once again take the bus back for the chance to appreciate the landscape a
Enjoy Thrilling Activities
Queenstown is a dreamland for adventure seekers, offering various activities set against the dramatic backdrop of the Southern Alps. There's an adventure for everyone from skydiving, ziplining, hiking, jet boating, mountain biking, and the famous bungee jumping off the Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge. I opted to try the Shotover Canyon swing, an exhilarating experience that transitioned from freefall to swing over the sheer river canyon walls. Queenstown transforms into a paradise for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts in the winter. This fascinating destination perfectly blends natural beauty, outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, and delightful dining options. You can experience awe-inspiring landscapes while enjoying the comforts and conveniences of an energetic town. I can't wait to return and explore what this place offers.
Ihad a great time in Queenstown. I recommend trying some local Manuka honey. To stick to my budget, I stayed in a hostel where I met many other travelers exploring New Zealand. However, this small town also has excellent hotels and other accommodations.
